Biography

David Thewlis grew up in Blackpool. As a child, he was interested in creative writing and music. After his punk band Door 66 disbanded, he studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. After graduating in 1985, he landed minor parts in movies, TV and commercials. In 1993, he starred in his career-defining role in Mike Leigh's Naked. He has since appeared in a range of movies including Seven Years In Tibet and The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas.

  • In 2001 he moved in with actress Anna Friel. In 2005 they had their first child together, Gracie Ellen Mary Friel.
