Growing up, David Tennant acted in several school plays. He trained at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama. After graduating, he landed roles in TV series like Rab C Nesbit. He also acted with the Royal Shakespeare Company. He became well known for playing the tenth doctor in the TV series Doctor Who from 2005 to 2010. Alongside his TV career, he has starred in a range of movies from Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire to St.Trinian’s II: The Legend Of Fritton’s Gold.
He was born David John McDonald. He had to change his surname because there was an actor with the same name registered with Equity. He reportedly chose the surname Tennant after reading a Smash Hits article about Paul Tennant from The Pet Shop Boys.
He was nominated for an Olivier Award for his performance in Lobby Hero.
He reportedly used to date Anne-Marie Duff.
His father was a minister and moderator of the General Assembly of the Church Of Scotland.
From a young age, he was obsessed with Doctor Who. As a child, he had a Tom Baker doll. Tom Baker is reportedly his favourite actor to play The Doctor. As a teenager, he wrote several Doctor Who-inspired essays.
