Biography

Steven Soderbergh began making movies as a teenager. After high school, he moved to Hollywood. He briefly worked as a freelance editor. He gained recognition for his Grammy-nominated rock concert video 9012Live. He moved back to his hometown in Louisiana where he wrote Sex, Lies And Videotape. Aged 26, he became the youngest director to win The Palme D’or at the Cannes Film Festival. He has since gained critical acclaim for directing movies including Erin Brockovich and Traffic.

  • In 2000, Steven Soderbergh became the first director to get two nominations for directing two movies, Erin Brockovich and Traffic, at the Oscars, Baftas and the Directors Guild of America.
  • He uses a psuedonym, Peter Andrews, for his cinematography in his movies such as Ocean's Eleven.
  • He divorced his first wife Betsy Brantley in 1994. They have one daughter. He married the journalist Jules Asner in 2003.
