At 15, Patrick Stewart left school to establish a career in acting. He was accepted by the Old Vic Theatre School in Bristol before going on to train at the Manchester Library Theatre. In 1966 he joined the Royal Shakespeare Company. In 1971 he made his Broadway debut in A Midsummer Night’s Dream. He became known for his role as Captain Jean-Luc Picard in the Star Trek: Next Generation TV series. He has also gained Hollywood recognition for playing Dr Charles Xavier in the X-Men movies.
