Ben Stiller's parents were comedians and actors Jerry Stiller and Anne Meara. He began making his own movies at the age of ten. After years spent acting on stage, he got a break when he was given his own show, The Ben Stiller Show, which won an Emmy award. He proved his comic ability by writing, producing, directing and starring in Zoolander. He has since appeared in a range of box office hits from Meet The Parents to Tropic Thunder.
As a child, Ben Stiller borrowed his sister's tights to perform Shakespeare plays at home.
In 2000 he married actress Christine Taylor. She has co-starred with him in a number of movies including Zoolander, Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story and Tropic Thunder. The couple have two children together.
He is a huge Star Trek fan and named his production company, Red Hour Films, after an alien riot that took place in one of the episodes.
He claims that he has bipolar disorder and that depression runs in his family.
He is good friends with Tom Cruise and has impersonated him on stage for years. At the 2000 MTV Movie Awards he took to the stage as Tom Crooze, a crazed stunt double. Stiller and Cruise co-starred in Tropic Thunder.
