Biography

Alan Rickman was born on a council estate to a Welsh mother and Irish father. He went on to study Graphic Design. His love of theatre led him to pursue a career in acting. Aged 26, he won a scholarship at RADA. His first major movie role was in Die Hard. He has demonstrated his diverse acting ability in movies from Sweeney Todd to Dogma. He is best known for his darker roles. His part as Severus Snape in the Harry Potter movies gave him a new generation of fans.

  • Alan Rickman auditioned for Chris Barrie's character, Rimmer, on the hit sci-fi sitcom Red Dwarf.
