Ron Perlman was raised by his father, a jazz musician, and his mother, a council worker. He studied fine arts at Lehman College and theatre arts at the University of Minnesota. After graduating, he starred in Broadway productions such as The Architect And The Emperor Of Assyria. He also landed minor roles in movies including The Name Of The Rose and Blade II. In 1995 he landed his first lead role in The City Of Children. He has since played the title role in the Hellboy movies.
