Biography

Chris Pine is the third generation of his family to make it in Hollywood. His parents, Robert Pine and Gwynne Gilford, are actors. His grandmother was Hollywood leading lady Anne Gwynne and his grandfather, Max M Gilford, was an actor and Hollywood attorney. He studied English at the University of California, Berkeley. In 2003, he became a professional actor with TV roles in ER, The Guardian and CSI: Miami. In 2009, he found movie fame playing James T. Kirk in Star Trek.

  • Growing up, Chris Pine preferred Star Wars to Star Trek. While his grandmother is a huge fan of William Shatner (Captain Kirk), he only started watching the TV series after he got his starring role in Star Trek.
  • Down on his luck in LA, he bought a plane ticket and found a place to live in New York. A week before he left, he got offered three roles including his first movie role in The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement.
