Catherine O’Hara first worked as a waitress at Second City’s comedy bar before joining the comedy troupe at the age of 20. In 1988 she got notice for her role in Beetlejuice. She is well known for her role as Macaulay Culkin’s mother in the Home Alone movies. She subsequently voiced the part of Sally in The Nightmare Before Christmas. She has starred in movies ranging from The Last Of The High Kings to Away We Go. In 2007, she was inducted into Canada’s Walk of Fame.

- She married Bo Welch in 1992. He directed The Cat In The Hat and was the production designer of the Men In Black movies. They have two sons together.
- In 1982 she won an Emmy for her comedy writing on Second City's SCTV.
- Her sister is singer/songwriter Mary Margaret O'Hara.
- She met John Candy while performing with Second City. They became close friends. She gave a eulogy at his funeral.
