Biography

At the age of eleven, Liam Neeson began appearing in school plays. After leaving university, he took up amateur acting again. By day he drove forklifts at a Guinness factory and by night he acted with amateur dramatic groups. He eventually secured acting work in Dublin. While acting at the Abbey Theatre, he was spotted by director John Boorman who gave him a role in Excalibur. He has since starred in various movies from Schindler’s List to Taken.

  • Liam Neeson married actress Natasha Richardson in 1994. She died in 2009 after suffering a head injury while skiing in Canada.
  • At the age of nine, he started boxing. At 15, he had his nose broken in a match. He went on to win heavyweight youth champion of Northern Ireland. However, he gave up boxing after he had a blackout.
  • He has suffered from diverticulitis, a digestive disease. He had to have emergency surgery to remove 40 per cent of his colon.
  • When he moved to London, he lived with his then-girlfriend Helen Mirren.
  • He was accepted to the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts. However, he never went as he couldn't afford the tuition and living expenses.
