Biography

At high school, Tom Hanks became involved in acting. At college, he resigned himself to set-building after a string of failed auditions for university plays. Out of frustration, he acted in community theatre instead. After developing his acting skills on stage, he moved into TV. His guest part in Happy Days led to his breakthrough role in Splash in 1984. Since then, his roles in movies including Philadelphia and Forrest Gump have made him one of Hollywood's biggest box office stars.
