Biography

Anthony Hopkins was born and raised in Wales. He studied at the Welsh College of Music and Drama. After two years in the army, he trained at RADA. He was spotted by Laurence Olivier, who invited him to join the National Theatre in London. Since then, he has appeared in a range of movies from The Elephant Man to Beowulf. He is best known for his portrayal of cannibalistic serial killer Hannibal Lecter.

  • Anthony Hopkins was a self-confessed loner at school. He didn't enjoy people's company. He didn't even want to attend his own birthday parties.
  • He is related to the poet William Butler Yeats through his mother's side of the family.
  • In 2000 he became a US citizen but still holds his British knighthood and the title of Sir.
  • In an interview with Playboy in March 1994, he stated that "actors are all damaged goods".
  • He had a brush with death while filming The Edge in Alberta, Canada. After falling into a freezing river he was rushed to hospital suffering from hypothermia.
