Zach Galifianakis grew up in North Carolina. He left North Carolina State University without graduating and moved to New York. He became a stand up comedian and he appeared on several Comedy Central TV shows such as Dog Bites Man. He also began acting in US TV series like Boston Common. He branched into movies with minor roles in Flushed and Heartbreakers. In 2009 he landed his breakthrough movie role playing Alan Garner in The Hangover.
Zach Galifianakis won an MTV Movie Award for Best Comedic Performance for his role in The Hangover.
In an interview with brianmpalmer.com, he discussed his worst jobs. They included working in a night club where he had “to crawl on my hands and knees on the dance floor during raves to pick up beer bottles” and working as “a waiter in a drag queen restaurant” where his boss allegedly encouraged him to dress as a woman.
In 2002, he hosted his own TV talk show, Late World With Zach.
He appeared in Fiona Apple’s music video for Not About Love.
He is of Greek descent and was raised as Greek Orthodox.
