At five, Michael Gambon and his family moved from Dublin to London. He left school at 15 and worked at a factory. At 18, he trained at RADA. He began his career acting at the Gaiety Theatre in Dublin and with the National Theatre. In 1986 he got recognition for his lead role in the TV series The Singing Detective. He went on to star in a variety of movies from Toys to The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou. He has since gained global attention for starring in the Harry Potter movies.
