Biography

Nicolas Cage was born Nicolas Coppola. His uncle is director Francis Ford Coppola. He changed his name early in his career to build his own reputation. His first movie Fast Times At Ridgemont High did not bring him the recognition he craved. He began selling popcorn in a cinema. He studied at UCLA’s School of Theatre, Film and Television. In 1983, he launched his career with Valley Girl and his Uncle Francis' movie, Rumble Fish. He has since earned critical acclaim in movies like Adaptation.

  • Nicolas Cage has practised method acting. He prepared for his angry role in The Cotton Club by smashing up a street-vendor's remote-control car.
  • He is a fan of comic books. He took his stage surname from the comic book character Luke Cage, one of the first black superheroes. He later called his son Kal-El after Superman's birth name.
  • His aunt is Talia Shire. She is known for her role of Adrian Balboa in the Rocky movies.
  • He instantly fell in love with Patricia Arquette on the set of Bringing Out The Dead. However, Patricia didn't believe his intentions. To prove his love to her, she allegedly set him a mission, a scavenger hunt for items such as reclusive author J. D. Salinger's autograph. When he produced items from the list, Patricia became frightened of his intensity and called off the mission. In 1995, their paths crossed again and they got married later that year.
  • In 2004, he married Alice Kim Cage. He met her in a restaurant in LA where she was a sushi waitress.
