Biography

Michael Caine was born and raised in South London. From 1952 to 1954, he did Army National Service in Germany and Korea. When he returned, he got a job as an assistant stage manager. This job led to walk-on theatre parts and TV roles. In 1960, he finally had his first stage hit in The Long And The Short And The Tall. Movie fame came later in Zulu in 1964. He has since gone on to star in over 80 movies. In 2000, he was knighted for his contribution to the performing arts.

  • Michael Caine was born Maurice Joseph Micklewhite. His first stage name was Michael Scott which he later changed to Michael Caine on the advice of his agent.
  • Mike Myers claims that he based the character of Austin Powers partially on Caine's character in Alfie. Michael Caine went on to star as Austin Powers' father in Austin Powers In Goldmember.
  • In 1987 he starred in Jaws: The Revenge. He is quoted as saying "I have never seen it, but by all accounts it is terrible. However, I have seen the house it built, and it is terrific".
  • His first job was working as an office runner for Peak Films.
  • As a child, he was briefly evacuated to Berkshire during the Blitz.
