Biography

Pierce Brosnan was born in Ireland. His father left the family when Pierce was a baby. He moved to London when he was eleven. He trained at the Drama Centre in London. He acted on stage for directors such as Tennessee Williams. His popularity rose with his performance in the TV series Remington Steele. Since then, he has starred in many movies ranging from Mrs. Doubtfire to The Matador. He is best known for playing James Bond in four movies.

  • He has been married twice. He married Cassandra Harris in 1980. After a four year battle with cancer, she passed away in 1991. In 1997, he met his second wife, journalist Keely Shaye Smith. Talking about his two marriages, he commented "Cassie is remembered with great love, remembered dearly. Keely has always accommodated that, and we have now been together 17 years. You know, I have the luck of the Irish. I've had great luck in finding a partner."
  • In 2003, he was awarded an honorary OBE for his charity work and boosting England's image around the world with his portrayal of James Bond. The OBE was honorary because only UK citizens, or citizens of any country where Queen Elizabeth II is head of state, can receive full honours.
  • In 1996, he formed the company Irish DreamTime. The company has produced movies including Evelyn, Laws Of Attraction and The Matador.
  • He has a scar above his lip which he received while filming Tomorrow Never Dies. He was accidentally hit in the mouth by a guard's helmet while filming a stunt for the Bond movie. They could only film one side of his face until his wound healed.
  • He is claustrophobic which made filming certain scene's in Dante's Peak a challenge.
