Harold (Will Ferrell) is a tax inspector who lives a life of solitude. Kay (Emma Thompson) is a best-selling author struggling to finish her latest book. When Harold begins hearing Kay's voice narrating every moment of his life he thinks he is going mad. But he discovers that his entire life is the subject of her latest book. Kay has no idea that Harold is an actual living human and seeks ways to kill him off. Co stars Maggie Gyllenhaal, Dustin Hoffman and Queen Latifah.
