Based on true events. 18th Century Denmark. Queen Caroline Matilda wants to be the perfect wife to King Christian VII. But when she realises that the King is descending into madness she begins an illicit affair with his German doctor Johann Friedrich Struensee (Mads Mikkelsen). As their secret relationship grows Struensee gains more power and influence which begins to threaten the King's reign. Subtitled. Moderate language and scenes of a sexual nature.
