After a freak accident, Derice's (Leon) chances of qualifying for the Jamaican Olympic track team are ruined. Desperate to find another way of getting to the Olympics, he forms a bobsleigh team with a group of misfits. He seeks out a disgraced coach (John Candy) to help lead the team. As they fight to qualify for the Winter Olympics they suffer setbacks and near disasters. While nobody believes they can do it, the team is forced to pull together despite their differences, in order to succeed. Some mild language and violence.

- This film is based on the true story of the 1988 Jamaican bobsleigh team, who entered into the Winter Olympics in Calgary, Canada.
- Contrary to what happens in the movie, the real Jamaican bobsled team were met with open arms by the other international teams. One of the other teams even went so far as to lend the Jamaican team their back-up sled so that they were able to qualify.
- This film marks the acting debut for Malik Yoba, who plays Yul Brenner.
- This is one of the last films John Candy made before his death in 1994.
