England, 1921. A ghostly figure has been spotted walking the halls of Rockwood Boarding School. Florence Cathcart (Rebecca Hall), a noted academic and renowned sceptic, has been brought in to prove that the spirit is not real. But when Florence begins her investigations she is unable to explain a number of bizarre and frightening events.
